Jjamppong(\uc9ec\ubf55)? Tangsooyook(\ud0d5\uc218\uc721)?<\/strong> <br>They were comfort foods from home, but only available in my memories.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Things have changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These days, Korean-Chinese restaurants are popping up all over the city\u2014especially in <strong>North York<\/strong>, where many Koreans live. And I must say, it\u2019s been <em>delicious<\/em> discovering them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83e\udd47 My Go-To Spots: Beijing Sung &amp; Iryewon<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When I crave jjajangmyeon, I usually go to either <strong>Beijing Sung (\ubd81\uacbd\uc131)<\/strong> or <strong>Iryewon (\uc790\uae08\uc131)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s a fun story behind these two restaurants.<br>I heard that the chef who used to work at Beijing Sung eventually opened Iryewon. They\u2019re just across <strong>Steeles Avenue<\/strong> from each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both are great\u2014and I honestly like them both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>In a January 2024 Facebook poll in a Korean community group,<br><strong>Iryewon got slightly more votes<\/strong> as the best jjajangmyeon spot.<br>But Beijing Sung still has a loyal fanbase!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83c\udf65 A Fun Fact About Korean Jjajang Culture<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s something many non-Koreans don\u2019t know:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whenever Koreans order jjajangmyeon, we almost <em>always<\/em> debate whether we should get <strong>jjamppong<\/strong> instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:21% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img data-dominant-color=\"6b472b\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #6b472b;\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/maplelog.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/ChatGPT-Image-Apr-24-2025-06_59_44-PM.avif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-178 size-full not-transparent\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maplelog.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/ChatGPT-Image-Apr-24-2025-06_59_44-PM.avif 1024w, https:\/\/maplelog.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/ChatGPT-Image-Apr-24-2025-06_59_44-PM-300x300.avif 300w, https:\/\/maplelog.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/ChatGPT-Image-Apr-24-2025-06_59_44-PM-150x150.avif 150w, https:\/\/maplelog.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/ChatGPT-Image-Apr-24-2025-06_59_44-PM-768x768.avif 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>That\u2019s why many Korean-Chinese restaurants offer a <strong>&#8220;half-and-half&#8221; bowl<\/strong>\u2014half jjajang, half jjamppong.<br>Sometimes it&#8217;s even served in a special <strong>divided bowl<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>And then there\u2019s <strong>tangsooyook<\/strong>\u2014deep-fried pork or chicken served with a sweet-and-sour sauce. It&#8217;s a must-have side dish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now here\u2019s the fun part:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 30%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>If you like <strong>pouring the sauce<\/strong> over your tangsooyook:<br>You\u2019re on <strong>Team Boomuk (\ubd80\uba39)<\/strong><br><br>If you prefer <strong>dipping<\/strong> each bite into the sauce:<br>You&#8217;re on <strong>Team Jjikmuk (\ucc0d\uba39)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img data-dominant-color=\"d6b691\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: <em>for free<\/em> with jjajangmyeon because we ordered it together every time. \ud83d\ude04<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udccd Other Korean-Chinese Restaurants to Try<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re exploring more places, here are a few popular ones in the Toronto area:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\ud83e\uddf1 <strong>The Great Wall (Man ri jang sung \/ \ub9cc\ub9ac\uc7a5\uc131)<\/strong><br>A solid classic with well-rounded dishes and decent tangsooyook.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\ud83c\udf36 <strong>Sunny Dragon Restaurant (\ud574\ub8e1\ubc18\uc810)<\/strong><br>Their jjamppong is spicy, flavorful, and full of vegetables.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\ud83c\udf5c <strong>Baik\u2019s Noodle North York (\ud64d\ucf69\ubc18\uc810)<\/strong><br>A Baek Jong-won franchise with chewy noodles, hearty portions, and well-balanced flavors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\ud83c\udfee <strong>Poong Moon (\ud48d\ubb38)<\/strong><br>A newer restaurant in North York\u2014popular with both Korean and non-Korean diners.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\ud83c\udfd9 <strong>Gyodong Restaurant (\uad50\ub3d9\ubc18\uc810)<\/strong><br>Located downtown, this place has great jjajang and jjamppong, plus self-serve coffee, rice, and even mouthwash and toothpicks!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udcac Final Thoughts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s amazing how many Korean-Chinese restaurants we can enjoy in Toronto today.<br>More than just a taste of Korea, these places bring a sense of <em>home and
